What is Mission 17:17
For centuries, Bulgaria was cut off from God’s Word. Today the door is open, but the Bible still isn’t available in a form that helps believers grow deep. Mission 17:17 exists to change that by translating, printing, and placing the ESV Study Bible into Bulgarian hands, and helping raise up the next generation of pasters and teachers.
Translate
It starts with prayer, then with funding. Crossway has given the rights to translate the ESV Study Bible’s notes into Bulgarian. It takes a skilled team to get this right. For every Bulgarian believer equipped to teach the Word, there are countless more still waiting for the chance to understand it.
Distribute
Once translation is complete, we print and get Bibles into hands across the country. It’s common for a Bulgarian city of 50,000+ people to have just one evangelical church of around 100 believers. Imagine what that church could do with a thousand study Bibles. The need is enormous, and so is the opportunity.
Disciple
Bibles alone aren’t the finish line. The last, ongoing piece of our work is discipleship, coming alongside believers on the ground. Not to do the work for them, but to train the next generation of pastors, elders, teachers, and leaders. We’ll know this mission is working when the growth we help start keeps multiply long after we’ve stepped back.
